How to query a FHIR server and view FHIR JSON in Human-Readable Format using the FHIR Viewer

This guide explains how to query a FHIR server from within the FHIR Viewer and convert the returned FHIR JSON data into a human-readable format.

1. Launch the FHIR Viewer

In the Home page, open the FHIR Viewer tool.

2. Select the Query Option

Click on the Query FHIR Server option to use a FHIR API query and retrieve data from a live FHIR server.

3. Enter the FHIR Query URL

In the field labeled FHIR Query, paste or type the full FHIR query URL.
Click View FHIR Data to fetch and process the response.

4. Use Authentication (If required)

If the FHIR server requires authentication:

  • Enable the Authentication toggle switch
  • Select the appropriate authentication type from the dropdown
  • Enter the required token in the field provided
  • Click View FHIR Data to proceed

5. View and Download the Data

After the query is processed, the results will display:

  • A human-readable view of each FHIR resource
  • The corresponding FHIR JSON for each resource

To download the results, click the Download button. A PDF file containing the human-readable output will be saved to your system.
